Electroplating is a common surface treatment that provides a protective coating to materials. However, sometimes plating coatings may peel off. The reasons caused are:
- IMPROPER SURFACE TREATMENT OF MATERIALS
The surface treatment of materials will affect the quality of electroplating coating. The adhesion of plating layer maybe reduced and peal off easily if grease, oxides or other contaminants present on the surface of materials.
- ISSUE OF PLATING SOLUTION FORMULATION
The formulation of plating solution includes a variety of additives and chemical components. If the formulation is improper or the concentration is not accurate, it will lead to unstable quality of the plating layer and easy to peel off.
- INAPPROPRIATE PLATING CONDITIONS
If the temperature, electric current, plating time and other conditions during plating are not properly controlled, the crystallization situation and adhesion of plating layer will be affected, resulting in the plating layer peeling off.
- MECHANICAL DAMAGE
Mechanical damage is one of the common causes of plating removal. If the material receives external forces such as impact, friction or scratches during transportation, the plating layer will be damaged, which will lead to the appearance of peeling.
Peeling of plating coating maybe affect its appearance and protection. The measures to solve the plating layer peeling off are to improve the quality of surface treatment of materials, optimize of plating process, strengthen the surface protection and control temperature change.
